Last year, Keith dropped the ball: he was tasked with planning a day during vacation and unknowingly drove Christine to Filmore Glen Park when the main attraction, the Gorge Trail, was closed. Instead Keith and Christine would walk the trail above the gorge, listening to the water throughout, but never once seeing it.
This year, Keith double- and triple-checked the New York State Parks website to be certain that the entire park was open for business.
The kids had been chomping-at-the-bit to spend the night at Grandma and Grandpa’s so they were dropped off in the late morning and Keith and Christine spent the early afternoon in the gorge and it was really, really nice, actually. It is an easy trip to Moravia and it is a very accessible walk (less than 4 miles round trip) that the kids will likely enjoy. It will have to be the site of a family trip next year, perhaps coupled with a stop at one of the finger lakes with the paddleboards either before or after.
Today, the water was flowing more than when we visited last year (we could tell by the amount of water flowing at the Cowshed, the only place that we saw running water at last year’s visit.
As we continued to navigate the path, we were greeted by flowing cascades and a variety of waterfalls.
Keith had traveled light with a single small lens on his camera, because the day was more about walking and spending time with Christine than it was about taking pictures. Still, there were a few images that were captured, nonetheless, and it is a location that Keith will return to with his more complete setup in the future.
Even so, it is usually more fun to share the experience of beautiful places with a loved-one while empty-handed than alone with a camera.
