This week was the first with Keith returning to work full-time…which meant that there were more mornings with Christine getting up early and more evenings with Keith staying up late. It stunk for Christine a little this week because Keith returned to a workplace that required a lot of paperwork this week, which means that he needed to stay later than he likes while bringing home some paperwork to do as well (which he likes even less). As a result, Keith was around less in the evenings (in particular) to help get Austin and Victoria ready for bed and bathed…and it can be a bit tricky juggling 2 baths at the same time (one in the tub, one in the sink), but Christine does an admirable job, nonetheless.
This weekend was a very busy weekend too…Austin had Dad’s Day at school on Saturday. Keith and Austin went to Bright Beginnings at 9 am to listen to a story, make (and later indulge in) a snack, play in the “sunshine room” (they can call it whatever they want, the boys ended up just playing in the sandbox the whole time), and making a small “craft” project. Austin had been SO excited all week for this day, and he really enjoyed showing Keith all that he did in school, and also his favorite toys (no surprise, all of them NASCAR toys).
The rest of the weekend was spent with family…Peggy, Kevin and Lia came over to visit on Saturday, and we went to Hannibal to visit Grandma and Grandpa on Sunday. On Saturday, we hung out, went for a walk, played some baseball and (SURPRISE) watched the NASCAR race. His favorite part of the race is when they say “Gentlemen, Start your engines!”; he HAD to make sure that Kevin and Peggy didn’t miss it.
Today, we went to Hannibal to play with Grandma and Grandpa and share a few meals. Grandpa got to hold Victoria for the first time (as he had been battling some bronchitis for a while). Austin was excited to read some new (to him) books and play with Grandma’s construction toys. Keith and Grandpa also worked for a few minutes on straightening some training wheels for Austin’s new bicycle that he is going to riding around the neighborhood in a few weeks. He doesn’t have too much interest in it right now, but we are sure that he will become an avid rider in no time.
As for the kids…Austin actually put himself to sleep for both naps this weekend. And, to be honest, he would have put himself to sleep in both evenings too if not for his falling asleep on Keith’s lap while watching the race last night. Victoria’s sleep on the other hand…is actually pretty good for being less than one month old: she is sleeping almost 10 hours with only 1 feeding during that span. Now…if we can only get her to sleep from 9pm-7am, instead of 11:30pm to 9:30am, then we will be a well rested happy family. But until then, we will remain not-so-well-rested. Such is parenting, right?
